Welcome to Oh My Foodness!
I’m Hope, the author of OMF. Since I can remember, I’ve loved being in the kitchen. It’s one of the only places I’ve found I can really escape, yet feel accomplished at the same time. Recipes encourage me and pull the creativity out of my imagination that otherwise hides away, scared of failure. I’m so thankful to my dear mother who taught me basic cooking and baking techniques until I was eighteen years old; and the various TV and Youtube personalities who mentor me now!
I’m married to my sweet husband Cobalt, whom I met at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee while pursuing my bachelors in Dietetics. His career in the entertainment industry brought us to sunny California, where we now reside in Los Angeles.
During college, I had the fabulous opportunity to volunteer with a local urban farm where I learned so much about the importance of supporting local farmers, the quality of fresh fruits and vegetables and how to eat in season. It was from this experience that I developed a passion for urban farming culture and sustainability!
So now, instead of being a Dietitian, I am a Garden Educator to local elementary schools through a local nonprofit. I love it! The kids are a hoot and I absolutely love watching them get excited about a teeny ladybug chilling on a borage leaf, how tasty a fresh chard leaf is, what bugs are good and bad and how to take care of plants.
This blog started in 2010 as a platform for me to legitimately document recipes in my repertoire and to keep me accountable for better presentation and photography skills. I believe in homecooked meals that are affordable, nutritious and packed with flavors. But I also believe in challenging myself sometimes. So some recipes that you read on OMF will take 15 minutes. And some will take a whole day (don’t worry – you can do laundry and watch Netflix in between steps!). Occasionally, I also write snippets about how the gardens are doing to keep my blog interesting ;)
I thank God, the Creator of the Universe, who inspires, provides and gifts me with the talent of cooking; my loving husband and families for their support; and also my brother for his idea for the title “Oh My Foodness!”
